211122E – MOZAMBIQUE / DOCTORS CONFIRM CALLING OFF STRIKE
Maputo, 06 Nov (AIM) – The Association of Mozambican Doctors (AMM) on Sunday confirmed the cancellation of the strike that had been scheduled for Monday (07), while negotiations with the government proceed to resolve some inconsistencies in the Single Wage Table (TSU).
However, it could be rescheduled for 5 December if there is no agreement with the government, warned the chairperson of the Board of the Association of Mozambican Doctors (AMM) Milton Hussene, at the end of a meeting held this afternoon in Maputo, to assess the deliberations that took place in the meeting held with the government on Friday in Maputo.
‘Let’s continue with the dialogue and give time for the points of agreed upon to be implemented”, Hussene said.
Among the issues still under discussion with the government, Hussene said, are the framework for doctors, as one of the key demands, as well as some subsidies established by law.
Hussene took the opportunity to announce that patients should return to the hospitals and health units, including those for outpatient consultations.
“It is only the new appointments that have been scheduled for December and January. We will be working in the hope that government will do its part and respond to our demands, which are not from now, they have nothing to do with the Single Wage Table, they are since the implementation and approval of our Statutes of 2013, and its regulation, in 2014,’ he said.
He reassured patients, reiterating that all doctors in all health units throughout the country would be working normally until the 5th.
The strike will only take place ‘if there is no solution to our concerns.
The AMM had scheduled the strike for 21 extendable days, starting at 07h00 on Monday (07).
The paralysis of activities in the National Health System sector comes in protest against the Single Wage Scale (TSU), in force in the public sector.
