Majority Of Nampula Administrative Posts Electrified
Nampula (Mozambique), 26 Dec (AIM) – 52 of the 70 administrative posts in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula have now been electrified, according to the publicly-owned electricity company, EDM.
This figure includes the Chinga and Saua-Saua administrative posts, in Murrupula and Nacaroa districts respectively, which were connected to the national grid in the week before Christmas.
According to a note from the EDM Communications Office, this is part of the “Energy for All” programme, which envisages bringing electricity to all administrative post headquarters throughout the country.
The note added that EDM is continuing to mobilise resources to allow more than ten million people to enjoy access to electricity for the first time by 2024.
In the Chinga administrative post, the government built 32 kilometres of 33 kV medium voltage transmission line, starting from the Cazuzu locality. The project also envisages installing ten kilometres of low voltage line, 150 lampposts for public lighting and five 100 kVa transformer posts. This will allow 500 new connections in the initial phase. The total cost is 82.3 million meticais (about 1.3 million US dollars, at the current exchange rate).
As for the Saua-Saua administrative post, this has already allowed 1,500 new connections. 113 million meticais were spent on building 35 kilometres of 33 kV medium voltage transmission line to Saua-Saua from Nacaroa town. 150 public lampposts were installed and five transformer posts.
During 2022, the EDM note said, 12 administrative posts throughout the country were electrified, nine through the national grid, and the other three through isolated systems. As part of this effort, 291 kilometres of medium voltage line, and 110 of low voltage line were built, and 54 transformer posts were installed.
