Call For Greater Aid To Remote Parts Of Nampula
Nampula (Mozambique), 30 Dec (AIM) – The Secretary of State in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, Mety Gondola, has called for extended assistance to the districts of great risk and difficult access.
Gondola, who was speaking on Wednesday during a session of the Provincial Emergency Operating Center for Human Assistance, said that the government’s partners must prioritise coordination in order to avoid the duplication of humanitarian assistance in these regions.
He pointed, as examples, to the districts of Larde, Lalaua, Memba and Mucate, which are the most remote areas in the province.
‘Our programme supporters, when working with us, must not concentrate their attention in the same places’, he said, adding that ‘we need to spread our aid to different districts.’
According to Gondola, there are districts that face a worrying situation and need greater humanitarian assistance.
‘Sometimes, we notice that the actions are focused on the nearest districts. But we want special attention paid to the remote districts and other precarious places’, he said.
Gondola also told the local administrators to pay attention to the circulation of medicines ‘diverted from their normal circuits, which are the hospitals sought by the population.’
The most critical scenario in this rainy season in Nampula indicates that nearly 119,000 people could be affected and for their assistance 43 million meticais (about 672,000 dollars at the current exchange rate) is needed.
The Emergency Operating Center is a coordinating body that brings together government, civil society organizations and programmatic partners including United Nations Agencies.
