Alleged Kidnapping Mastermind Arrested
Maputo, 9 Jan (AIM) – The South African police have arrested a 50 year old Mozambican citizen, named as Esmael Malude Ramos Nangy, who is wanted for multiple cases of kidnapping in Mozambique and South Africa,
According to reports in the South African media, the arrest was the work of the Trilateral Planning Cell (TPC), acting together with Interpol. The TPC was set up by the ministers responsible for policing in Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania, in order to combat transnational organized crime.
The TPC/Interpol team moved against Ramos Nangy (also known as Esmael Zarolho) on the basis of an arrest warrant and extradition request from the Mozambican government. The team arrested Ramos Nangy on Saturday at a luxury home in Centurion (an area in Gauteng province that lies between Johannesburg and Pretoria).
The police team seized from Nangy a 9mm licensed firearm, fourteen 9mm cartridges, five cell phones, multiple bank cards for South African banks as well as multiple South African and Mozambican mobile phone SIM cards.
Nangy is due to appear before the Magistrate’s court in Randburg on Monday where the procedures for extraditing him to Mozambique will immediately begin.
