Maputo, 3 Mar (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has demanded greater speed and better quality in the provision of services to citizens at the Derre District Court, in the central province of Zambezia.
Nyusi made the demand during the inauguration on Thursday of the Derre District Court and Civil Registry and Notary Office, renewing his commitment to build a proper court in all districts by the end of 2024.
The Court, which is budgeted at about 60 million meticais (almost one million dollars at the current exchange rate), is adjacent to the Registry Office, budgeted at six million meticais.
“The two buildings are perfectly matched in terms of services because one is dedicated to the registration of important facts for the life of any citizen such as birth, marriage, procreation, divorce and death, while the court will assess the conflicts that arise in communities and make decisions that lead to greater social harmony”, Nyusi said.
He also stressed that the magistrates and other officials assigned to these two institutions should improve their performance aimed at justifying the state’s investments.
“The infrastructures that we have just inaugurated will contribute to the improvement of your working conditions and, consequently, to your performance”, declared the President.
“Yesterday the population was registered through mobile civil registry brigades, with all the inconvenience of instability due to the lack of a permanent local document archive”, he added,
According to the President, the employees of both institutions must offer excellent services, characterized by courteous treatment of users, seriousness in making decisions, correct and well-founded application of the law, and respect for the rights of citizens.
‘Avoid conflicts, and if they occur let citizens know how to seek an extra-judicial solution. Not all disputes should end up in the courts”, Nyusi warned.
For his part, the President of the Supreme Court, Adelino Muchanga, , said the development does justice to the presidential initiative “One District, One Court”, since it historically marks the start of the functioning of a District Law Court for the first time in that part of the country.
He stressed that the court buildings in the Zambezia districts of Inhassunge, Luabo, Molevala and Mucubela have been concluded, awaiting only their inauguration, while the buildings in Molumbo and Namarroi are in their final phase.
“Now we need a penitentiary. Without the penitentiary what will happen is that the detainees will be sent to prisons in other districts”, Muchanga said.
