Maputo, 12 May (AIM) – The Mozambican police have arrested two individuals in the districts of Nhamatanda and Dondo, both in the central province of Sofala, for alleged involvement in murder and trafficking in human body parts.
According to police spokesperson Dércio Chacate, one of the arrestees, V. Domingos, was caught in Tica administrative post when he was trying to deliver human organs to a supposed buyer.
V. Domingos is also accused of being involved in similar crimes in Morrumbala district, in the central province of Zambezia, which is his birth place.
“The other individual, J. Viano, was arrested in Savane, Dondo district. The detentions happened thanks to tip-offs to the police”, Chacate said, adding that measures are under way to find out the circumstances under which the individuals committed the crimes.
“We are facing two types of crime, aggravated homicide and possession and sale of human body parts”, the spokesperson added. He even claimed that “these individuals continuously used to decapitate human heads for sale”.
V. Domingos confessed that he committed the crime and expected to receive 250,000 meticais (about 3,900 US dollars, at the current exchange rate).
“The boss (Viano) told me to look for human heads. We killed in Savane and Tica. I cut off heads and genitals and then I called my boss to inform him about the work I did. He delayed and the police came to arrest me”, Domingos said.
For his part, Viano denies being the criminal mastermind and accuses Domingos of being mentally ill, although acknowledging that Domingos worked for him at his farm.
“I do not know why I’m here. The young man is mentally ill, what he is saying is nonsense but I know him, he has worked for me but he ended up stealing and running away”, he said.
