Maputo, 23 Aug (AIM) – The Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM) have killed Abu Kital, the second-in-command of the islamist terrorists operating in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
According to a Wednesday press release from the FADM General Staff, Abu Kital was the deputy of Ibn Omar, the terrorist commander who also uses the name Abu Suraka.
A second senior leader of the jihadist organization Al-Sunna Wali Jammat, Ali Mahando, was killed in the same operation. The General Staff’s release did not give the exact place or date of this clash.
It added that terrorists ambushed a motorized unit of the FADM that was part of a military column heading to the Cabo Delgado administrative post of Quiterajo at about 08.30 on Tuesday.
The lead vehicle overturned, and the jihadists set it on fire. However, the occupants of the vehicle were unharmed.
The General Staff added that “currently actions are under way to collect information on other movements of the terrorists which will be made available to the media in due time”.
