Maputo, 18 Sep (AIM) – The shortage of specialized staff to guarantee the production of strategic statistical data is undermining the activities undertaken out by the Mozambican National Statistics System (SEN).
According to the director of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Eliza Magaua, who was speaking at the planning meeting of her institution, the shortage of financial resources is also another problem hindering its activities.
“Discussion of the challenges faced by the institution is crucial in order to ascertain the measures required to guarantee the production of statistics through communication and computer services”, she said.
“The shortages undermine all of our activities. We do not have enough money or staff to carry out statistics activities on time and fulfil our plans”, Magaua added.
Although the country has long experience with national and international partners, the director explained, the challenges persist.
“We must have more capacity to express not only our goals but also the results we want to achieve. It only can be done through a correct and careful planning exercise”, she said.
The SEN Strategic Plan (2025-2029), according to Magaua, aims to reflect on the 5th General Population and Housing Census, which should be held in 2027.
“The good planning of activities does not only depend on correct allocation of resources. It also depends on the maximization of results and costs. It means that the goals and achieved results must be very clear”, she said.
