Maputo, 10 Oct (AIM) – Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has arrested four people in connection with the kidnapping of a shop owner in central Maputo, according to the independent paper “O País”.
The citizen, of Asian origin, was kidnapped two weeks ago in Maputo city, inside his own shop. One of the kidnappers, who pretended to want to buy a product, pulled out a pistol and jumped over the counter. He then dragged the victim back over the counter and held him down with the help of an accomplice who was also brandishing a pistol.
The two kidnappers then shoved their victim outside and into the getaway vehicle that was waiting at the entrance of the store. The crime, captured by the security cameras, went viral on social media.
Of the four individuals arrested, two are employees of the victim, who were even in his shop on the day the kidnapping took place. It is not yet known who masterminded the crime.
The victim is still being held captive in an unknown location.
There were other customers and workers in the establishment who were threatened with firearms. The kidnappers took money as well as the victim.
