Maputo, 04 Dec (AIM) – Three people have died as result of buffalo attacks, in Saláue locality, Ancuabe district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique.”
According to local sources, cited by the paper, the victims, attacked near Natocua and Nanguwo villages, are all men. Two of the three victims were attacked during the week when they were making charcoal in the forest.
“The two men were together when they were preparing charcoal and suddenly the two buffaloes appeared and made a deadly attack”, said Suema Bacar, one of the sources residing in Nangumi village, which is also home to several families displaced by the attacks by islamist terrorists.
According to the sources, the third victim was found in a cashew grove gathering cashew nuts and was then attacked by the animals. As a result, in recent days the residents have been afraid to go into the fields.
According to a source from Ancuabe District Economic Activities Service, the buffalo attack is known to the authorities, and one of the animals has had been shot by security agents.
The source explained that the origin of the animals is still unknown, but it is suspected that they came from the Quirimbas National Park.
