Maputo, 11 Dec (AIM) – Islamist terrorists claim to have killed five soldiers belonging to the Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM), when they attacked on Thursday Muidumbe district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique.”
According to the paper, “the pro-terrorist agency Amaq released a video and photos in which they claimed responsibility for an attack on an FDS position, leading to the population fleeing.”
The local sources told the paper that the attack took place at the fishing centre called Manhiça.
“We still don’t have the extent of the damage or fatalities, but here in Miangalewa we have people who fled there, they left everything,”, said Nkualembo José, a resident of Miangalewa, about 20 kilometres from the place where the attack occurred.
Another resident of the Changane neighborhood, in the town of Macomia, said that after the information reached the authorities, several units were immediately deployed.
“We received military personnel here with weapons and others without weapons after reinforcement teams moved in, joining troops of Rwanda and Botswana. From the information we have, we lost five soldiers”, he said.
“Many of them arrived here in Macomia, with almost nothing. They say they were attacked by surprise by people wearing headscarves”, said another resident.
