Maputo, 19 Jan (AIM) – An aircraft belonging to the South African Airlink Company veered off the runway on Thursday when landing at the airport at Pemba, capital of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
According to a statement from the company, the incident involved an Embraer 135 aircraft, flying to Pemba from Johannesburg, with 32 passengers and three crew members on board.
“All the people on board disembarked from the aircraft via the main front entrance. To date, no injuries have been reported. Airlink and Pemba airport staff are taking care of the passengers and crew”, the company says, adding that it has already notified the relevant authorities in Mozambique and South Africa.
“The airport operator has closed the runway, but as soon as it reopens, we will send a support aircraft to Pemba and recovery teams that will help recover the aircraft, which aquaplaned off the runway”, reads the Airlink document.
According to Airlink, all the necessary assistance will be provided to the investigators in Mozambique.
