Maputo, 28 Mar (AIM) – The Association of United Mozambican Health Professionals (APSUSM) has suspended its nationwide strike, which was scheduled to begin on Thursday, as a result of a reactivation of dialogue with the Health Ministry.
The APSUSM had announced, on Tuesday, to resume the strike supposedly because the Health Ministry (MISAU) has failed to fulfill promises made in the negotiations, after the strike was suspended in August 2023.
According to APSUSM President, Anselmo Muchave, who was speaking to reporters on Wednesday, in Maputo, the strike was once again suspended because the government promised to fulfill the union’s crucial demands.
The government, however, has made no comment at all.
“In Mozambique, the health professional has to be seen as a servant of the population. The short-term consensus reached today must be implemented quickly”, said Muchave.
He explained that, in the dialogue, it became clear that, initially, due to budgetary limitations, the re-framing of the new Unified Wage Table (TSU) for the public administration only covered special regime employees.
“In the dialogue held this Thursday between the government and health professionals, the government’s intention to overcome some concerns became clear”, he said.
According to Muchave, the government must improve the good working conditions and supply of essential material for work and medication for users.
“What we want to know from the government is when the issue of medicines in some hospital units, work uniforms, allowances and a new framework for general regime employees will be improved. We saw concrete documents on the dialogue table for the implementation and execution of the concerns raised, so we decided to suspend our strike for 30 days while we maintain the dialogue”, he said.
