Maputo, 22 Sept (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Sunday met with the chairperson of the Rockefeller Foundation, Raj Shah, and with the CEO of the Corporate Council of Africa (CCA), Florizelle Liser.
Chapo granted these audiences in New York, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly. According to a release from Chapo’s office, the meetings “strengthen the country’s commitment to sustainable economic development and to attracting foreign investment”.
The Rockefeller Foundation, the release said, “expressed an interest in supporting Mozambique in the energy transition and in the efficient use of natural resources”.
A representative of the Foundation, Woochung Um, told reporters “it’s a pleasure to be here speaking with the President, because Mozambique is such an important country in Africa, and we want to be part of its economic development which uses the natural resources of the country efficiently”.
“We are organised to help developing countries make the energy transition, because energy is the basis of economic prosperity”, he added, stressing the ambition to make Mozambique a regional energy pole.
For her part, Florizelle Liser stressed the importance of foreign investment for Mozambique’s economic growth. She said Chapo had underlined the importance of inviting businesses to invest in such key sectors as oil and gas, agriculture, tourism and critical minerals.
She stressed that American investors are enthusiastic about Mozambique. “I think the members of the Corporate Council on Africa and the private businesses that are working in Africa, and particularly in Mozambique, are very anxious about the development of this chapter in the relations between the US and Mozambique”, Liser said.
