Surto de cólera na cidade de Quelimane, província da Zambézia
Maputo, 26 Jan (AIM) – The Mozambican health authorities have recorded almost 5,000 cases of cholera throughout the country, during the current outbreak.
According to the latest bulletin of the National Public Health Directorate, the total number of cases since 3 September 2025, has now risen to 4,540.
The northern province of Nampula concentrates the highest number of cases, with 1,930 infections and 23 deaths. The central province of Tete is in second position, with 1,755 cases and 28 deaths, while the northern province of Cabo Delgado has 728 cases and eight deaths. The central province of Zambézia has recorded 72 cases and one death.
“The overall lethality rate is 1.4 percent. Since the beginning of the outbreak, 62 people have died from cholera. During the same period, 2,484 patients were hospitalized, while 2,056 patients received outpatient treatment”, reads the document.
According to the bulletin, the outbreak is currently active in the districts of Marara, Tsangano, Moatize, Changara, and Cahora Bassa, in Tete province. It is also active in the districts of Eráti and Memba, in Nampula, as well as in Montepuez, Metuge, Pemba, and Mecúfi, in Cabo Delgado province. Cases of cholera have also been diagnosed in in Guro, in Manica province, as well as in Morrumbala district, in Zambézia.
