Maputo, 16 Jun – Two individuals were shot dead on Monday by unidentified assailants, in Khongolote neighborhood, southern municipality of Matola.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were being followed by the criminals before being killed while inside his car. Suddenly, two men got out of a car and started shooting. After shooting, they drove away.”
Amateur footage showed at least 12 holes, presumably from bullets fired from the weapons used in the attack, which shocked the neighborhood.
The country’s National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) then appeared to remove the bodies and the vehicle.
The authorities have confirmed the case, but they did not provide further details.
Another source said that the assailants didn’t even bother to cover their faces. “These things had never happened in this area. This is the first time. We have seen other little criminal cases, but this case is extraordinary”, the source said.
This is yet another murder in a public place in just over a week. Days ago, the criminals’ targeted a police officer, in Acordos de Lusaka neighborhood, also Matola.
Similar cases have been taking place especially against police officers. Some people believe that these crimes are related to the wave of kidnappings and settling of scores between police officers involved in criminal schemes.
