Maputo, 14 Jul (AIM) – Mozambique’s state-owned television broadcaster, TVM, denies withholding information from the English accountancy and consultancy firm Moore, which was hired to audit the company’s accounts for 2025.
In its report, the English firm claims that TVM refused to provide supporting documents for analysis, which prevented the professionals from verifying certain line items in the financial statements presented by the public broadcaster’s administrators.
According to Moore, the hidden documents are related to “banks, customers, suppliers, debtors and creditors, which show a total debit balance of 17.3 million meticais and a total credit balance of 115.5 million meticais (from 270.700 to 1.8 million US dollars at the current exchange rate).”
“Although we requested them, as of the date of this report, no explanations for the aforementioned differences have been provided to us, nor have the necessary adjustments been made to reflect these differences in the financial statements. This situation prevents us from verifying the completeness and accuracy of the amounts recorded under the trade receivables, trade payables, and creditors line items”, reads the report.
However, TVM, reacting to Moore report in a statement, claims that it “made available all information and formally documents requested by the auditors, collaborating openly, transparently, and continuously with the audit team.”
The company also claims that the auditor requested balance confirmations from various third parties, including clients, suppliers, creditors, and banking institutions but “by the time the audit concluded, some of these entities had not yet sent their responses to the auditor.”
“The external auditor issued a qualified opinion regarding the line items in question. Not due to a lack of cooperation on TVM’s part. We took all possible steps with the entities involved to ensure responses were provided in a timely manner. However, the issuance of these confirmations depends entirely on the external entities, a procedure beyond the company’s control. TVM did not withhold information during the audit process”, reads the statement.
The English firm had also reveled in its report that TVM recorded a financial loss of 107.1 million meticais in 2025, contrasting with the profit of 255.4 meticais recorded in 2024, and the “equity position deteriorated, standing at negative 1.1 billion meticais in 2025, compared to negative 983.8 million meticais in 2024.”
