241122E – ANOTHER NAMUNO VILLAGE ATTACKED
Maputo, 7 Nov (AIM) – Islamist terrorists killed at least two people, and perhaps as many as six, and burnt down a large number of houses on Friday, in an attack against another village in Namuno district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in Monday’s edition of the independent newssheet “Mediafax”.
The target was Pararane village, near Murameia, the first village attacked in Namuno, in October. Pararane is about 25 kilometres from Namuno town. Both villages are near the Lurio river, which marks the boundary between Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces. “Mediafax” reports that there is now “intensive” terrorist movement in this area.
The attack against Pararane took place in the same week as the Cabo Delgado provincial governor, ValigyTuabo, visited Namuno town to express his solidarity with the victims of the earlier attack.
On that occasion, the Namuno district administrator, Maria Lazaro, said that so far the attacks on Namuno villages have displaced about 10,000 people from their homes. Most of these people have sought security in Namuno town.
