Drug Trafficker Flees at Border
Maputo, 6 Dec (AIM) – A truck driver attempted to smuggle 200 kilos of cocaine from Mozambique into South Africa last Saturday, but was detected at the border, according to a report in Tuesday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Mocambique”.
The truck bore a number plate from the South African province of Gauteng, and the driver declared that his cargo consisted of artificial hair pieces.
But, after the truck had passed the border, South African customs officers selected it for a more detailed inspection.
While the customs team was occupied, the driver of the truck escaped. He said he intended to contact the owner of the truck. He fled before the customs officers discovered that there were 200 kilos of cocaine hidden within the truck.
The South African police have seized the truck and all its cargo for further investigation.
