Maputo, 27 Mar (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Sunday night arrived in New York where he will meet with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and chair high level sessions of the UN Security Council.
In addition to Guterres, the high level meetings will also be attended by the Presidents of Ghana and Switzerland, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
Nyusi is chairing these meetings because this month Mozambique occupies the rotating chair of the Security Council
The themes of the meetings are “Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts: the fight against terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism”, and “The impact of development policies in implementing the continental ‘Silencing the Guns’ initiative”.
Nyusi will also take part in a session of reflection and sharing the experiences of Mozambique in peace building. “I shall speak of today’s global challenges, the situation of terrorism in Africa, and the regional initiatives under way to contain terrorist actions”, he said.
