Maputo, 22 Jan (AIM) – The Mozambican government intends to invest, in the next three years, about 240 million meticais (376,000 US dollars, at the current exchange rate) for training health professionals, in order to improve the services provided by the National Health System.
The amount, which counts on the support of the Italian government, is part of the project named “Strengthening the System of Health Institutes and Development of Telemedicine”, which was recently launched in Maputo.
The project will be implemented in the health institutes of Maputo and Sofala provinces.
The funds will be used for the construction of modern infrastructures, and the acquisition of technological equipment, as well as the creation of scholarships for students from remote regions.
According to Deputy Health Minister Ilesh Jani, the sector faces challenges regarding the expansion of the health network and improvement in the quality of the services, as well as the training of professionals.
“The good provision of health services depends on human resources and the adoption of new approaches, such as telemedicine and telehealth. Mozambique intends to gain experience in the area of telemedicine, since it may play an important role in the provision of specialized services”, Jani said.
