Maputo, 21 Feb (AIM) – The branch of the Attorney-General’s Office (PGR) in the southern Mozambican province of Inhambane has ordered the incineration of over 100 kilograms of amphetamine seized recently in Inhassoro district, while in possession of three individuals.
According to a report in the independent daily “O Pais”, the drugs came from Asia, and were transported in a heavy goods vehicle belonging to a 50-year-old man who was in the company of two women. The narcotics entered the country hid in 108 packets of plastic bowls.
It is believed that these drugs were destined for the neighbouring province of Gaza.
According to the PGR, the decision to incinerate the amphetamine was taken to ensure that it could not be diverted for later sale on the black market.
The PGR believes that even with the incineration of the drug, a week after the seizure, the investigation of the case will not be harmed.
