Maputo, 21 Mar (AIM) – The administrator of Chiúre district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, Oliveira Amino, has called on displaced people now returning to their homes to resume farming, since the islamist terrorists have been expelled from the region by the Mozambican defense and security forces (FDS).
According to the administrator, interviewed by Radio Mozambique, the population has to resume farming, in order to rebuild their lives, after the invasion by the jihadist groups.
“These are the populations of the Chiúre Velho, Mazeze and Ocua administrative posts, where terrorist incursions were recorded at the end of February ‘”, he said.
Amino said it is necessary for displaced families to return to their areas of origin and engage in productive activities to combat food dependency.
“The challenge is to get state institutions up and running at the headquarters of the Mazeze administrative post, where some were destroyed by the terrorists. For those who have fields, it is ideal that they start looking after them again”, he said.
“At the moment, we’re seeing that the return of displaced people is happening smoothly”, he added.
On Tuesday, the governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, announced that the district of Quissanga and the island of Quirimba, in the neighboring district of Ibo, are free from the terrorists who had occupied them earlier this month.
After several months of relative normality in the districts affected by armed violence in Cabo Delgado, the province has been experiencing new movements and attacks by jihadist groups for the past few weeks which have limited circulation and caused many villagers to flee their homes for safer areas.
