Maputo, 5 May (AIM) – A group of farmers, in Nambawa region, on the outskirts of the town of Macomia, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, have discovered human bones while they were undertaking their agricultural activities.
According to Tuesday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, it is believed that the bones in question belong to two people, although their identity is still unknown.
However, according to local sources, these people have allegedly lost their lives during a the terrorist attack on the town on 10 and 11 May.
“It’s true, two skeletons were found. The people were in the field, so they found these bones and two skulls and came to inform us here in the town,” a source said.
Another resident of Macomia town said that the bones could be those of people who fled on the day of the attack. The sources also say that this is not the first time that lifeless bodies have been found in a state of decomposition after the terrorist attack on Macomia.
However, the residents of the town believe that life is returning to normal, despite the circulation of terrorist groups in the Mucojo administrative post, some 60 kilometers from the district capital.
“The problem is that schools and other sectors are not working properly, but life is going on. People are going to the fields and commerce is flowing. Cars to Silva Macua are travelling normally, albeit with escorts”, a source said.
Meanwhile, the same sources added that on Monday morning, an AK-47 assault rifle and military uniforms were found in the Napulubo neighbourhood, also on the outskirts of the town.
