Maputo, 25 Jun (AIM) – Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) incinerated, on Monday, 90 kilos of cocaine at a landfill site in Moamba district, about 60 kilometres north of Maputo.
The drugs in question were seized last Wednesday, in Maputo City, hidden inside 446 boxes of deodorants.
According to SERNIC spokesperson, Hilário Lole, investigations are under way to determine the exact origin and final destination of the drugs.
“So far, two individuals have been neutralized, but we have indications of more people involved in this organized crime. We believe that we will announce the neutralization of these elements in due course”, he said.
He claimed that efforts are under way to neutralize the remaining gang members involved in drug trafficking.
“We already have information about the routes leading to the final destination of the drugs, but we can’t yet go any further into the details of this investigation”, he said.
