Maputo, 13 Aug (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi believes that the friendship that the population of Cabo Delgado province has been showing to Rwandan forces, which are helping the Mozambican Defence Forces (FDS) in the fight against Islamist terrorists, means the existence of mutual trust.
Nyusi was speaking to reporters, on Monday, in Kigali, at the end of a two-day working visit, where he took part in the swearing-in ceremony of Paul Kagame to another term as president of Rwanda.
“This affinity is due to the fact that the Rwandan troops spend a lot of time with the people, including moments of joy and pain, and for this reason they end up obtaining a lot of relevant information. Among the parties, there is credibility and acceptance. It’s positive and model co-operation”, the president said.
Nyusi also said that with the withdrawal of the Southern African Development Community Military Mission (SAMIM) from Cabo Delgado, last July, there was a need to strengthen the presence of Rwandan troops in terms of numbers and resources.
“And the Mozambican forces had also to be greatly strengthened. Here, in Rwanda, we also took the opportunity to exchange views with the various leaders who were here, from Africa and beyond, on our collective agendas”, he said.
