Maputo, 22 Jun (AIM) – Mozambican Attorney-General Beatriz Buchili, on Thursday, challenged the Higher Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be more efficient in conducting proceedings, reducing the complaints about the poor services that the body has been providing.
According to Buchili, who was speaking at a ceremony in which she was swearing into office 15 new members of the Council of the Judiciary, there has been a systematic increase in complaints and reports about the functioning of the judicial system.
There had been “unacceptable behavior on the part of attorneys and bailiffs. Such complaints are related to absences from the workplace, interpersonal relationship problems, poor service to the public, failure to process cases on time, and corruption”, she said.
“What we want is to see the Public Prosecutor’s Office more interactive in the control of legality, in procedural activity in the various jurisdictions, as well as in actions to combat major crime, especially organized and transnational crime”, she said.
Buchili also said that the Higher Council must work hard in order to prevent and combat, unrelentingly, the evils that end up contributing negatively to the construction of the democratic rule of law.
The new members of the Council must be aware of the organizational and functional dynamics of the body, generating consensus, “always acting objectively and thoughtfully, so that the decisions taken are the right ones for each situation”, said Buchili
