Militares removem barricadas na cidade de Maputo
Maputo, 14 Nov (AIM) – Mozambique’s National Defence and Security Council (CNDS) has called on the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) to favor dialogue during demonstrations called by the presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane.
According to the CNDS, during its extraordinary meeting on Wednesday in Maputo, chaired by President Filipe Nyusi, citizens’ lives and property must be protected.
However, the body condemned the placing of obstacles on the roads in order to limit the functioning of institutions, and the free movement of people and goods.
“This has disastrous consequences for the economy. The CNDS also deplores, in the strongest possible terms, the involvement of children in the demonstrations following the general elections on 9 October, and the attempt to subvert the democratic order legitimately established in Mozambique”, reads the note.
The document says that “the CNDS has sent its heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones as a result of the demonstrations and stands in solidarity with the entrepreneurs whose businesses have been vandalized and looted.”
“The CNDS also analyzed the security situation throughout the country, particularly in the Northern Operational Theatre against islamist terrorists in Cabo Delgado province. It noted with satisfaction the progress in the fight against terrorism, which is contributing to the consolidation of security and the gradual recovery of the lives of the population, especially in some districts”, reads the note.
