Maputo, 29 Nov (AIM) – The most recent waves of extreme violence carried out by the Islamist terrorists in some districts of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado have caused the displacement of 14,287 people.
According to a report by the Conflict Monitoring Project in Northern Mozambique, cited in Friday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the displacements were recorded in the districts of Chiúre and Ancuabe, where the terrorists massacred many members of the peasant militia, known as “naparamas.”
The same document also points out that the displaced people from Chiúre district abandoned the villages of Napala and Ntonhane when the terrorists approached the two communities, moving in the direction of the Odinepa administrative post, in the neighboring province of Nampula.
“There were reports of two deaths caused by terrorists in the village of Nangumi, in the locality of Silva Macua, in Ancuabe, and one death in the village of Magaia, in the district of Chiúre”, reads the report.
Recently, the authorities, in cooperation with the Rwandan Forces, authorized the return of the displaced population to their homes after they fled from Mucojo administrative post, Macomia district.
However, there are still reports that the terrorists have been raiding the region in order to loot food products allocated to the local population as part of a food assistance programme in the village of Nanquidunga, in Mocímboa da Praia district.
