Presidente da República, Filipe Nyusi, inaugura novo edifício do Tribunal Judicial do Distrito de Maringué, província central de Sofala
Maputo, 6 Dec (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday warned that the current wave of violence, together with citizens’ attempts to take the law into their own hands, is extremely dangerous and could lead to a vicious circle.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new courtroom in Nhamatanda district, in the central province of Sofala, Nyusi said that what Mozambicans need is peace and dialogue and not lynch law, which will merely help spread hatred across the country.
He told the Nhamatanda court that its duties include preventing the crimes which lead citizens to take the law into their own hands.
As for the post-election violence sweeping the country, Nyusi condemned those who seize firearms from the police, or burn down public and private buildings.
Inciting violence, which leads to death and destruction, is a serious problem, particularly when it has an impact on children. He hoped that the courts will help prevent the children of today from growing up with traumas caused by adults.
Nyusi recalled that some people had criticised his initiative to ensure a functioning court in every district. But it is these courts that are supporting democracy in Mozambique, he declared.
Also on Wednesday, Nyusi inaugurated a court in the Sofala district of Maringue.
