Eduardo Mulémbwè, Ministro na Presidência para os Assuntos Parlamentares, Autárquicos e das Assembleias Provinciais
Maputo, 7 Feb (AIM) – Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Thursday appointed former Attorney-General Eduardo Mulembue as Minister in the President’s office for Parliamentary and Municipal Affairs.
Mulembue was the chairperson (speaker) of the Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, for 15 years (1994-2009). He also sat for many years on the Political Commission of the ruling Frelimo Party, and was Attorney-General between 1989 and 1994.
Chapo also appointed five presidential advisers, several of whom had served under his predecessor, Filipe Nyusi. Thus, another former Attorney-General, Beatriz Buchili, who held the post from 2014 until last December, becomes the adviser for legal and constitutional matters.
While Buchili was Attorney-General, her office successfully prosecuted several of those involved in the country’s largest ever financial scandal, known as the case of the “hidden debts”.
Among those sentenced to long prison terms were Ndambi Guebuza, the oldest son of the then President, Armando Guebuza, and the two top figures in the country’s security service (SISE), Gregorio Leao and Antonio Carlos do Rosario.
Chapo appointed former Transport Minister Mateus Magala as his Adviser for Economic and Development Matters. Manuel Goncalves, deputy foreign minister under Nyusi, becomes Chapo’s adviser on diplomatic matters.
Francisco Mucanheia holds the new post of adviser for Inter-Institutional Matters. He had also been an adviser in Nyusi’s office.
A former Minister of Public Works, Joao Machatine, is now head of the president’s Office for Reforms and Strategic Projects, while Jose Ajape Chironga is Chapo’s new Political Adviser.
Most of the new advisers were sworn into office on Friday morning. At the same time, Chapo swore into office his press attache, Adilson Adinane, who had also handled Chapo’s media contacts when he was governor of Inhambane province.
