Maputo, 22 Feb (AIM) – Unidentified assailants on Friday morning kidnapped a 57 year old businessman in Maputo.
The victim, whose name has not yet been disclosed, is one of the administrators of Ford Automovel in Maputo.
According to a video, filmed by a surveillance camera, the victim was surprised by three armed men, who dragged him into their own car, and then drove away at high speed.
The kidnapping took place when the victim was leaving a gymnasium in the building of the National Olympic Committee, near the Natural History Museum in central Maputo.
According to Maputo City police spokesperson, Leonel Muchine, in addition to the getaway car, a second vehicle was involved in the kidnapping. Muchine said the police pursued this vehicle, which the criminals apparently abandoned.
Inside the car, the police found two firearms – a pistol and an AK-47 assault rifle.
But although the occupants of the second car were on foot, the police failed to capture any of them.
This is the third kidnapping in Maputo city so far this year. Nobody has been arrested in connection with any of these crimes.
