FADM melhor preparadas no combate ao terrorismo
Maputo, 1 Apr (AIM) – The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) has trained a group of 25 officers from the Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM) “who will take on a relevant and strategic role for the future of military operations against islamist terrorists in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.”
According to the 2nd commander of the FADM’s Higher Institute of Defence Studies (ISEDEF), Brig Gen Moisés Cau, who was speaking in the southern city of Matola, on Monday, during the closing ceremony of the Administrative Command Elements (ACE) programme, the FADM officers are prepared to continue implementing the ACE objectives.
“We have to focus on the future of the mission and the future collaboration between the FADM and EUMAM MOZ, which is currently a short and medium-term cooperation, but we hope it will have a long-term impact”, he said, cited in a press release.
Directly supervised by the FADM Chief of Staff, Joaquim Mangrasse, ACE is responsible for managing the regeneration, training and maintenance of the Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs) and Tactical Air Control Group (TACP) teams previously trained by the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique, as well as the control and maintenance of their equipment.
During the last six weeks, the 25 officers who attended the ACE programme had the opportunity to explore and deepen knowledge crucial to the development of command-and-control skills.
The programme’s main objectives are to strengthen the FADM’s decision-making skills and general staff procedures.
The programme covered fundamental topics such as the structure of ACEs and QRFs, staff techniques, the military decision-making process and exercise planning, as well as receiving expert advice in various military areas.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission, with a mandate until June 2026, and focuses on the operational and maintenance training cycle, but also provides specialized training for the FADM, as a way of preparing the armed forces to be self-sufficient in combating the insurgency that has plagued some districts of the northern province of Cabo Delgado since October 2017.
