Maputo, 23 Jun (AIM) – The Italian Energy Company ENI, which already exports liquefied natural gas from the Coral Sul project, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) have signed an agreement aimed at supporting the Mozambican private sector.
According to a statement, this cooperation will include agriculture and rural development, the environment and blue economy, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), food security and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, and community health.
“The agreement reflects the shared commitment of Eni and AICS to sustainable development and inclusive growth in Mozambique. By working together, the partners aim to reinforce the positive impact of their initiatives, contributing to the long-term well-being of the communities and to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, reads the note.
According to the AICS director, Paolo Sertoli, who was speaking during the ceremony, the Italian agency is intensifying its collaboration with the Italian and Mozambican private sectors in the search for innovative and sustainable solutions.
“The collaboration between AICS and Eni in Mozambique is well-established, characterized by regular meetings in which we have worked side by side to promote the country’s sustainable development and define common priorities,” he said.
He claimed that the agreement represents an important step and reinforces the structure of the institutional partnership in response to the Italian legal framework, which establishes the general rules for international development cooperation and formally recognizes private companies as key players in Italian cooperation.
“AICS also collaborates with companies such as Carbosink, Newster and Novamont, bringing the excellence of Italian companies to sustainable development initiatives in Mozambique, guaranteeing the continuity of initiatives in the sectors of agriculture and rural development, education and technical and vocational training, food and nutritional security, health and community education”, he added.
