Maputo, 3 Jul (AIM) – The South African based Air Company Solenta Aviation has announced that its business plan and Air Operator Certificate (COA), the necessary documents for the company to start operating in Mozambique, have been approved by the regulatory body, the Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute (IACM).
In a statement, the company says “following reports in the media, Solenta Aviation Mozambique confirms that it is ready to start regular passenger services in Mozambique under the Fastjet brand. The business plan that supports the introduction of these services and the Air Operator’s Certificate (COA) have been approved by the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique .”
According to the company, what is missing now is a license so that it may start operating scheduled flights “but the license was paid for last April.”
“We have already complied with everything to be certified. We have complied with every aspect and there are no impediments that the regulator has raised. All the fees required to obtain the operating license have been duly paid, so we expect this license to be issued soon”, reads the Solenta statement.
The company has guaranteed that its three Embraer 145 aircraft are already in Mozambique and the crew and support staff have already been hired.
“The contracts have already been signed for passenger assistance (handling and check-in), catering and fuel supply. Solenta Aviation considers Mozambique an attractive investment destination and it is open for business, hence the commitment to continue investing in the country. We will soon be announcing the dates and destinations of our first flights”, the document says.
Solenta Aviation’s statement comes after it publicly denounced attempts to block its operation in the country, even after it had submitted all the required documentation and paid the license fee. Solenta may end the monopoly on domestic flight exercised by Mozambique Airlines (LAM), and those who benefit from the monopoly may not welcome competition.
