Maputo, 1 Oct (AIM) – A 20 year-old woman was shot dead, apparently by a stray bullet, during a high speed car chase at a roundabout, in the southern Municipality of Matola.
The tragedy took place when the criminals, driving a Toyota Ractis, opened fire against a Toyota Mark II, which was being driven by the man who was their target, an alleged police officer.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman, named as Eunice Matsinhe, who was on her way to school, was hit by stray bullets while she was inside a minibus “when the criminals were trying to kill the man inside the Toyota Mark II.”
“I tried to avoid the gunfire, but as the passengers tried to exit the car, a man was also shot. Three shooters were inside the Ractis, who opened fire against the Mark II”, an eye-witness said.
According to another source, over 25 shots were fired, “but at least 12 rounds of ammunition were collected at the scene, and stored in plastic bags, before the police arrived. The intended victim escaped with his life and he was taken to hospital.”
The Mozambique Police (PRM) has not commented on the matter yet.
