Maputo, 15 May (AIM) – The Mozambican Police (PRM) has promoted 343 officers to different ranks and retired 245 others as part of the celebrations of the 51st anniversary of the corporation, which is celebrated on May 17.
According to Interior Minister, Paulo Chachine, speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, in Maputo, promotions and retirements are part of the process of institutional renewal and continuity within the country’s Police.
“The promotions constitute recognition of the commitment, dedication, and hard work demonstrated by public servants in the performance of their duties. Promoted officers must assume greater responsibilities in reinforcing discipline, patriotism, and professionalism within the corporation”, he said.
“Promotion is an act that reflects the State’s recognition of the participation, dedication, and commitment shown by the public servant in the performance of their duties”, he added.
The minister explained that promotion to the rank of superintendent requires greater discipline, patriotism, and professionalism, and values that should serve as an example for the younger members of the police.
“Promotion to the rank of police superintendent presupposes raising the level of discipline, patriotism, and professionalism”, he said.
Chachine also congratulated the officers who retired, saying that they were protagonists in the history of the country.
“Retirement is not the end of the relationship with the police institution. The State will continue to rely on the experience and wisdom of reservists in guaranteeing internal security”, he said.
He also said the officers now in reserve have left a legacy of patriotism, a sense of state, discipline, and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, which should continue to guide active-duty personnel.
“Once a police officer, always a police officer,” he said.
For his part, Joaquim Sive, PRM General Commander, said that a police career demands courage, discipline, sacrifice, loyalty, and a high patriotic spirit.
“A police career, especially at the officer level, demands courage, discipline, sacrifice, loyalty, and a high patriotic spirit. On the other hand, the officers who are retiring actively participated in the modernization and strengthening of the corporation, facing complex challenges and contributing to the reinforcement of the police’s operational capacity.
The PRM commemorative week was recently launched in Xai-Xai city, southern province of Gaza, under the motto “PRM, 50 years reaffirming its commitment to communities in the fight against crime, terrorism, road accidents and corruption.”
