Maputo, 21 May (AIM) – The mayor of the central Mozambican city of Beira, Albano Carige, on Wednesday laid the first stone for the construction of multi-purpose building, budgeted at three million US dollars.
The infrastructure, which its construction is expected to run within a year, consists of green spaces, a police station and a health facility in order to “decentralise essential services and improving security and access to healthcare.”
According to Carige, cited in a statement, the objective is to transform Beira into a national reference center. “We want to develop our city. Our dream is to go to Gorongosa and bring animals for our green infrastructure park, as part of our environmental and tourism project integrated into the new Maquinino development”, he said.
The mayor added that the infrastructure will be equipped with warehouses and video surveillance cameras “in every corner” to monitor the movement of residents, reinforcing the municipality’s focus on modernizing urban management.
“We will also solve the sewage problem in the area, as the project will include improvements to sanitation infrastructure in Maquinino”, he added.
