Maputo, 22 Jul (AIM) – The Mozambican government has decided to appoint the businessman Dino Foi as new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Sustainable Development Fund (FNDS), one of the country’s most important public institutions for development financing.
FNDS was a crucial entity for the implementation of the Sustenta Project, which was the former government’s flagship agricultural modernization policy. However, the project is considered to have failed as it couldn’t reach the designed objectives, according to various specialists.
Foi’s appointment was announced on Tuesday by Salim Valá, Minister of Planning and Development and government spokesperson, after a meeting of the Council of Ministers (cabinet).
Before his appointment as FNDS Chairman, Dino Foi was the Chairman of the Buddhist humanitarian organization Tzu Chi Charity Foundation. As new FNDS chairman, he replaces Cláudio Borges.
Foi’s management in Tzu Chi Charity Foundation is marked by a successful restoration of infrastructures destroyed by the cyclones that repeatedly struck the central province of Sofala and the northern provinces of Cabo Delgado, and Nampula. During his management, the organization also secured support for the reconstruction of schools, health centers, and other essential social facilities.
Also on Tuesday, according to Valá, the government approved the 2026–2030 Integrated Investment Program (PII) and its associated integrated development hubs, “instruments designed to guide strategic investments for economic growth.”
