Maputo, 14 Aug (AIM) – Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has solved, in the central province of Manica, 419 various criminal cases during the first half of this year, compared to 210 cases during the same period in 2023.
In a statement, SERNIC revealed that the solved crimes involved homicide, aggravated robbery, sexual assault, among other offenses.
These figures were released on Thursday during a visit to SERNIC by the Secretary of State for Manica, Lourenço Lindonde.
Lourenço Lindonde reviewed the institution’s report, noting the progress achieved. However, he acknowledged challenges regarding a lack of space to house certain services, as well as a shortage of the financial and human resources needed for SERNIC to function fully.
“At times, these challenges have affected the sector’s operations. However, we must recognize that some of these problems are widespread. We believe they will be overcome. What we can say is that the State will gradually improve its material and financial capacity to ensure the country’s continued development”, he said.
Lindonde challenged the SRNIC to keep its commitment to ensuring security and combating crime through professionalized investigation. “Carry out your work with professionalism and loyalty. Focus on professionalized investigation, because that is the only way we will fulfill our mission of preventing and combating crime”, he said.
Secretary of State also urged SERNIC agents to focus on professional training in order to enhance their knowledge in specific areas. “In your day-to-day work, you deal with sensitive matters that sometimes require in-depth knowledge. There are criminal cases that demand expertise in law or related fields,” he said.
