Parte do equipamento vandalizado pertencente a empresa Aeroportos de Moçambique
Maputo, 16 Jan (AIM) – A group of unknown individuals on Thursday damaged eight approach lights and stole 150- and 200-watt transformers installed at Tete Airport, in the central Mozambican province of Tete.
According to a statement issued by the publicly-owned Mozambique Airport Company (ADM), the stolen materials are essential for the lighting system on runway 19 at Tete Airport.
“For operational safety reasons, night flights to and from Tete Airport are temporarily cancelled. Night flights will resume once the vandalized equipment has been fully replaced, including the technical conditions required for safe operations”, reads the note.
The company has guaranteed that steps are being carried out in order to replace the equipment and strengthen security measures, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The company has called on the community to collaborate in reporting acts of vandalism that endanger the safety of civil aviation and disrupt the normal functioning of airports.
