Maputo, 23 Aug (AIM) – Mozambican Transport Minister Mateus Magala has challenged Amélia Muendane, the new chairperson of the Mozambique Airports Company (ADM), to boost the company’s capacity for collecting revenue to the benefit of the state.
According to Magala, who was speaking, on Wednesday, in Maputo, during the ceremony in which he was presenting Muendane to the company’s employees, ADM must produce enough revenues to become financially independent.
He added that the managers of public and state-owned companies must work in order to ensure that the state business sector is a true centre for producing revenue and self-financing.
“We urge the incumbent to consolidate this vision in the management of ADM, exploiting all the potential it has to generate revenue, while at the same time implementing cost containment measures to balance the company’s balance sheet and results”, he said.
Before being appointed as chairperson of ADM two weeks ago, Muendane was chairperson of the country’s Tax Authority (AT). She had also been Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.
According to Magala, Muendane was chosen to lead ADM as a result of her vast experience and accumulated knowledge in the area of management acquired at the AT, which fit the current challenges of ADM.
“Muendane is taking charge of Mozambique Airports at a time when the vitality of Mozambican civil aviation is returning, after the damaging consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic”, he said. “This company plays a strategic role in rapidly connecting the country for labour mobility, as well as providing flexible solutions in the logistics of transporting equipment, high-value commercial products and medicines”, he said.
Magala also challenged the new chairperson to work in order to provide ADM with the qualities required in modern airports, including the provision of water, internet and air-conditioning systems.
