FIRE BRIGADE URGED TO STEP UP INSPECTIONS
Maputo, 12 Dec (AIM) – Mozambique’s Minister of the Interior, Arsenia Massingue, has urged the Fire Brigade (Sensap) to step up its inspection activities to safeguard public security.
“I encourage you to increase inspections, and raise the awareness of motorists about carrying and using fire extinguishers, taking prevention measures against fires and other risks”, she said. She insisted that the culture of prevention must be boosted among citizens, in order to make their everyday lives more secure.
Speaking on Monday in Maputo, at a ceremony marking the 33rd anniversary of the creation of Sensap, Massingue stressed the importance of the fire brigade in preventing and combatting fires and other serious threats.
She said that her Ministry is attentive to the activities and needs of Sensap, and is committed to its institutional development. The Ministry will thus give its full support to the Law on Protection Against Fires, passed last year by the Mozambican parliament, the Assembly of the Republic.
Massingue wanted to see a greater presence of Sensap in the districts and administrative posts. “Sensap is challenged to bring its services ever closer to citizens”, she said.
Sensap must also step up the technical and scientific training of its staff, in order to constantly improve the services it offers, the Minister urged.
