LAM Plane Makes Emergency Landing
Maputo, 29 Dec (AIM) – An aircraft of Mozambique Airlines (LAM), with 120 people on board, on Thursday morning experienced a serious breakdown while in the air, which forced it to tun back to Maputo International Airport and make an emergency landing.
The plane was on a scheduled flight from Maputo to the northern city of Lichinga. It took off at 06.10, but when it was above Marracuene district, about 50 kilometres north of Maputo, it suddenly lost both speed and height.
The captain, one of LAM’s most experienced pilots, immediately took the plane, a Boeing 737-700, back to Maputo Airport. Nobody suffered any injuries in the emergency landing.
Alfredo Cossa, of the LAM Communications Department, told AIM that the company will provide details on the cause of the problem later.
“Right now, we are in internal investigations, in order to ascertain the real reasons for the delay to this flight”, he said.
