Maputo, 15 Mar (AIM) – Several households, mostly dependent on fishing, who returned without authorization from the authorities to the Pangane, in Macomia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, were forced to attend a meeting by a group of terrorists who invaded that region, last Monday evening.
According to sources, cited by the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the terrorists, without using their trademark violence, told the population that they had no intention of harming anyone, but talked about the need to follow the commands of God (Allah) emanating from the Quran.
The terrorists supposedly told people that they should pray, fast, and increase the practice of good deeds, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Next, the group asked to buy some food products, including fish. However, they destroyed cigarettes that were on sale, on the grounds that smoking is forbidden under sharia law.
The reduced movement of the terrorists in the coastal region of Macomia, due to the frequent actions of the Mozambican defence forces and their allies in SAMIM (SADC Military Mission in Mozambique), has motivated the return to Pangane of some displaced people, mostly fishermen, who had taken refuge in Mucojo.
