Maputo, 8 Aug (AIM) – Mozambique’s Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat (STAE) will rehire 3,350 civic education agents to mobilise voters for the municipal elections to be held on 11 October.
“We will rehire the civic education agents who worked during the voter registration, which took place between 20 April and 3 June. For this reason, we will not hire new agents”, said STAE spokesperson Regina Matsinhe, cited in Tuesday’s issue of the Maputo daily “Notícias.”
In the public administration, she said, the contracts have a duration of three years, which means that the group that was hired previously is still within the deadline.
“STAE will also prepare 217 provincial civic education agents. They will have the responsibility to spread information about the elections in the 65 municipalities in order to call the voters to come to the polling stations on Election Day”, Matsinhe said, explaining that the civic education agents must inform the voters about the various phases of the process.
“They must inform the voters about the day, the location and the time for the voting. It is their duty to promote political and social tolerance between citizens, as well as to guide the voters about the location of the polling stations”, the spokesperson said.
