Maputo, 16 Out (AIM) – The Mozambican Police (PRM) has denied reports that on Saturday ten armed men attacked a police station in the 3rd February locality, in Manhiça district, about 90 kilometres north of Maputo.
A screenshot of a message concerning the alleged attack went viral on social media and some outlets published it.
The message claimed that the men who entered the police station initially said they wanted to file a complaint. But then they drew their pistols and threatened the police officers, pressuring them to hand over their weapons. “Left with no alternative and unable to react, the police officers finally gave in. The individuals took possession of an AK47 and a pistol”, said the message.
But the police dismiss this whole story as fictional. According to the spokesperson for the General Command of the police, Orlando Mudumane, cited in Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique”, there was no attack at all. He dismissed the story as “fake news”.
