Maputo, 18 Jan (AIM) – Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has appointed Eduardo Namburete, a senior member of Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, to the post of Ambassador to Algeria.
Eduardo Namburete, 55 years old, is the second member of an opposition party to be appointed to represent Mozambique in diplomatic missions.
He is a member of the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican Parliament, for Renamo, in the Maputo constituency. He is also a lecturer at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) and he is one of the founders of the School of Communication and Arts (ECA), where he became director.
In July 2022, Nyusi appointed Raul Domingos, who was head of the Renamo team that negotiated the 1992 peace agreement, as Mozambique’s ambassador to the Vatican.
Domingos clashed with the then leader of Renamo, Afonso Dhlakama, who had him expelled from the party. He then set up his own organization, the Party for Peace Democracy and Development (PDD), which failed to win any parliamentary seats, and is currently moribund.
