Maputo 2 Feb (AIM) – The Montepuez Ruby Mining company (MRM), which operates in the Namanhumbir administrative post, Montepuez district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, intends to invest 100 million dollars to open a second ruby processing plant in 2025.
According to the MRM director of public relations, Milcon Chichume, cited by the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the new facility will allow the processing of rubies to rise from the current 200 tonnes per hour to 600 tonnes.
Chichume explained that it will contribute to an increase in the size of the workforce and greater revenue for the state.
“This is the Gemfields group’s biggest investment in the world, and as a company we want to ensure that by 2025 we will be considered the mine with the most responsible mineral resources in the world”, he said.
The company’s vision, he explained, is to join the international verification system called IRMA in order to become one of the most responsible mining operations in the world, taking into consideration the monitoring of aspects, such as the environment and relations with local communities and the government.
