Maputo, 8 Feb (AIM) – Unidentified criminals have broken into the Manica Provincial Office (GCCC) for the Fight against Corruption, in central Mozambique, where they stole computers and criminal files.
It is believed that the robbery was carried out by a police officer and a soldier.
The crime began when, at around 19.00 on Monday, a police officer in uniform and armed with an AKM-type firearm arrived at the scene and introduced himself as an officer scheduled to work.
Minutes later, another individual knocked on the gate and a private security guard opened it. It was a military officer in uniform, who asked to speak to the officer on duty. The policeman said he knew him and the three of them stood there chatting like colleagues.
A GCCC source, cited by the independent daily “O país”, confirmed the crime and explained that the individuals in question fled when the real officers, scheduled for duty that evening, arrived.
The police spokesperson in Manica, Lurdes Mabunda, said she had not been informed about the case.
“It’s my first question and I’d like not to look bad, but I don’t have any information yet. I’d rather not talk about it so that I can provide concrete information”, Mabunda said.
This is the second time that this kind of crime has occurred in Manica. In 2023, criminals broke into a magistrates’ condominium and looted various items, including criminal files.
